We are a team passionate about civil justice for our clients, but your cyclist and pedestrian case isn’t just another file in our caseload. Whether it’s leading group bike rides or leafing through sets of government data, or testifying to the City Council, our staff are engaged activists and advocates for a safer, greener, and more sustainable city.
Adam White
Principal
Adam D. White is a principal of the firm. He has represented injured cyclists, pedestrians and other accident victims for more than 25 years. He has successfully obtained substantial compensation on behalf of hundreds of clients through settlements and verdicts.
Learn more about Adam
Among Mr. White’s notable achievements include his representation of seven cyclists who suffered serious injuries on the Williamsburg Bridge bicycle and pedestrian path as a result of defectively designed metal expansion joint covers. His work not only resulted in his clients’ receiving proper compensation but also in prompting the City of New York to remove these hazards from the path’s Manhattan approach.
In another significant case, he won justice for the family of a young woman killed by a driver while bicycling, upon whom the NYPD had placed all the blame for the crash. Mr. White obtained a jury verdict which found the driver in fact to be almost entirely at fault. He also recovered from a major insurance carrier payment to an injured cyclist that was substantially beyond its insured’s policy limits, by invoking the rule against insurer “bad faith,” winning a jury verdict, and successfully defending it on appeal. That award was generally considered to set the high water mark for sustainable non-economic (pain and suffering) damages for a knee injury that did not require surgery.
In addition to representing seriously injured individuals, Mr. White is a daily bicycle commuter and long-time advocate for safe streets. He is a frequent guest speaker at cycling clubs and community groups briefing their memberships about everything from basic bike safety to the intricacies of New York Insurance law. His firm also serves as a proud long-time sponsor and supporter of major New York cycling events such as the Transportation Alternatives Century Ride and the Five Borough Bicycle Club Montauk Century Ride, and other organizations and safe streets advocacy groups including Streetsblog.org and Streetsfilm.org., Recycle-A-Bicycle, and The League of American Bicyclists where he serves as a member of the Legal Affairs Committee.
Mr. White is a graduate of the Horace Mann School, Brandeis University (A.B. ’86) and The Benjamin Cardozo School of Law (J.D. ’90).
Mr. White is admitted to the Bar of the State of New York, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the United States Supreme Court.
